Financial technology is upending the way banks are run and making major players like HSBC reexamine aspects of its operations, including customer messaging, identity verification and product promotion.

Mr Josh Bottomley, HSBC's global head of digital, retail banking and wealth management, told The Straits Times in October that the bank has spent the past few years laying digital foundations.
