Citi has appointed a new country officer for Singapore and head of Asean to replace Mr Michael Zink, who announced his retirement in February.

Mr Amol Gupte, a Citi veteran of 27 years, will take on the roles, pending regulatory approval, the bank said yesterday.

Mr Gupte, who will relocate from Hong Kong to Singapore and continue to report to Asia-Pacific chief executive Francisco Aristeguieta, will oversee all of Citi Singapore's businesses and operations.

These include developing and implementing the bank's business strategy in Singapore and fostering client relationships at all levels of the organisation, managing risk and controls, and protecting and enhancing Citi's reputation here.

He will also be responsible for the leadership of Citi's businesses across Asean.

Mr Gupte was previously the regional head of treasury and trade solutions (TTS) in Asia-Pacific.

Before that, he had served in a number of senior TTS roles in North America, Emea (Europe, the Middle East and Africa) and Asia. He started his career with Citi in the consumer bank in India with roles in sales, product management and treasury.

Mr Aristeguieta said: "Amol's international experience in building and managing key businesses will be vital to our ongoing commitment to our clients in Singapore and throughout Asean.

"Singapore and the wider Asean market is a strategic priority for Citi, where we have built one of our largest and most diversified businesses, which is well positioned for future growth."
