Hong Kong - Citi has been named the best bank in Asia by trade publication FinanceAsia for the sixth year running.

Besides the regional award, its mergers and acquisitions prowess was also recognised as it picked up the best M&A bank title as well as other awards including best equity deal, best initial public offering and best project financing.

It led over US$85 billion worth of M&A deals last year and helped raised over US$150 billion for clients.

The bank also saw more than seven million digital banking users in Asia, with client assets in the region crossing the US$250 billion mark for the first time.

FinanceAsia cited Citi's ability to maintain a well-balanced split among businesses and countries for the win.

Citi's Asia Pacific chief executive Stephen Bird thanked its customers for their trust, adding: "Asia is at the heart of Citi's transformation and we are well placed to capture more of the growth opportunities in this region."
