SINGAPORE – Okay, so there was no Santa Claus rally coming into the new year. The bloke in the red outfit went AWOL (absent without official leave, in military parlance).
Since 1950, the S&P 500 has generated an average return of 1.3 per cent during the seven days between Christmas and New Year, widely outpacing the market’s average seven-day return of 0.3 per cent, according to LPL Research.
