Golf: Lewis bags 6th LPGA Tour title with HSBC Women's Champions win

STACY Lewis became the second straight American golfer to win the HSBC Women's Champions after a thrilling final day at the Sentosa Golf Club on Sunday.

The world No. 4 overcame the dogged pursuits of fellow US star Paula Creamer and South Korea's Choi Na Yeon to win her sixth LPGA Tour title. She took home US$210,000 (S$260,000) for her efforts.

"It was nerve-wracking - I'm not sure how I saw it out but this win makes me so happy right now," said the 2012 LPGA Player of the Year, whose one-under 71 saw her sign off with a 273 total.

A shot adrift in second spot was world No. 2 Choi (72), while Creamer (71) took third, a further stroke back. Thai prodigy Ariya Jutanugarn's good form continued as she claimed fourth spot with a tally of 278.

It was a tournament to forget for the world's top player Tseng Ya-ni. The Taiwanese star's final round of 74 (286 total) meant she ended in a disappointing tied-28th in the field of 60.

Lewis and Choi's performances moved them closer to toppling Tseng's 107-week reign as No. 1.

Defending champion Angela Stanford (73) struggled to a 56th-placed finish, while Singapore's representative Christabel Goh (77) went home last.
