Reader Loh Ping Shun wanted to know if full-time national servicemen (NSFs) can engage in part-time work outside of their NS duties.

According to the Ministry of Defence, they cannot do so.

NSFs are not allowed to undertake salaried or contract employment, or run a business while serving their full-time national service commitments. But those whose families face financial hardship may apply for financial assistance grants. They should also approach their respective units for further assistance.
