Safety guidelines allow low levels of contamination, but consumers must ensure the food is not spoilt

A live maggot is just about the last thing anyone would hope to find when he opens a tin of food.

But that is what Facebook user Linda Xue claimed to have discovered in a can of Ayam Brand's tuna mayonnaise, shown in a video she posted on the Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority's (AVA) Facebook page on May 14.
