Xi to be re-elected as president

President Xi Jinping, China's most powerful leader since Mao Zedong, will be re-elected to a second five-year term as president today by the country's Parliament, the National People's Congress.

Mr Xi's close ally Wang Qishan is expected to be elected vice-president.


Russian presidential election tomorrow

Russians go to the polls tomorrow to elect a new president, with opinion surveys showing incumbent Vladimir Putin is on track to be comfortably re-elected.

Critics accuse Mr Putin, who was first elected president in 2000 and is running for a fourth term this time, of harbouring ambitions to stay in power indefinitely.


Outdoor Chinese dance carnival

The Singapore Chinese Dance Theatre will be hosting its fourth annual outdoor dance carnival, Under The Big Tree 2018, tonight. The event, which is free, will feature a performance under the century-old tree at its Sennett Road premises. President Halimah Yacob will be the guest of honour at the event.
