This time two years ago, an international tribunal at The Hague ruled in favour of the Philippines in its case against China for violating its maritime rights in the South China Sea.
In its July 12, 2016 ruling, the tribunal, held under the auspices of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, concluded that there was no legal basis for China to claim historic rights to resources in the sea areas falling within its controversial "nine-dash line".
