India to buy French Rafale fighter jets

India will sign a deal to buy 36 French Rafale fighter jets to replace part of the country's ageing air force fleet.

Details about the acquisition should be released after the signing ceremony today, but recent local Indian media reports said New Delhi had agreed to pay around US$8.8 billion (S$11.9 billion) for the long-delayed deal.


July consumer prices out today

Singapore's consumer prices for July will be released today.

Prices have fallen for 21 straight months, as the cost of housing and utilities pulled the inflation basket lower. In July, inflation fell by 0.7 per cent from a year ago, while core inflation - which strips out volatile items - rose 1 per cent year on year.


Consumer awareness talks

The Consumers Association of Singapore (Case) and the five community development councils are launching a series of consumer awareness talks, aimed at helping consumers understand their rights and promoting consumer responsibilities. They will also be taught what to look out for when buying products or services. Kicking off the series today is a talk on the CaseTrust Accreditation Scheme and Mediation.
