Women enjoy quite high status in the Indian province of Kerala so it is perhaps not surprising that a "revolt" that could make the country's film industry a more gender equal space should have erupted there.

At least four leading actresses have resigned from the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (Amma) in protest against its decision to reinstate actor Dileep.
