Tiger widows of the Sundarbans

Some 4.5 million residents depend on the forest for their livelihood. But danger lurks behind every tree, and those left behind struggle to get by.

Ms Sumitra Mridha remembers being a loyal devotee of Bonbibi.

She would often fast with the deity's name on her lips. She would make rice pudding and offer it at her shrines. She would even show up at local ceremonies organised to venerate the goddess.
