"In view of media reports of communal clashes in Kandy, Singaporeans are advised to defer all non-essential travels to Kandy until the situation stabilises," the MFA said in a statement.

Singaporeans who are already in Kandy are advised to exercise vigilance and take all necessary precautions for their personal safety, monitor the news closely and heed the instructions of the local authorities. Protests and large public gatherings should be avoided.

Singaporeans are also urged to purchase comprehensive travel insurance and be familiar with the terms and coverage.

They should eRegister with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at https://eregister.mfa.gov.sg/ and stay in touch with family and friends to keep them updated on their safety.
