The horse was allegedly attacked by a politician and its death triggered outrage. The animal became the subject of a weeks-long row between rival political parties in India after its injured hind leg turned gangrenous and had to be amputated. Shaktiman went into shock and died after being given anaesthesia to treat another infection.
