Indian students in Bangalore celebrating in front of a statue of Mahatma Gandhi on his 148th birth anniversary yesterday. Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, also known as Bapu or Father of the Nation, was born on Oct 2, 1869, in Porbandar, Gujarat. He studied law in Britain and practised in South Africa, but later returned home to join the Indian freedom struggle.
