In a bid to ensure more Indian academic institutions break into top global rankings, the government is making it easier for them to recruit foreign academics. Having a more international faculty, something which Indian institutes are not known for, is one of the key criteria on which global rankings are based.
A key component of the government strategy in recent months has been to woo foreign nationals who were previously Indian citizens or descendants of such individuals.
