Bride in India dumps groom because he can't do maths

NEW DELHI - An Indian groom was left at the altar after he failed to solve a simple mathematics problem, reports said.

The bride asked him to add 15 and six; his reply was 17. She called off the wedding, according to Uttar Pradesh police.

The bride, named Lovely, said the man she was to marry was illiterate, and refused to go through with the arranged marriage.

Local police had to mediate between the two families, and all the gifts were returned.

Her father, Mohar Singh, told reporters that the groom's family did not tell them about his lack of education.

"Even a first grader can answer this," he said.
