The simmering trade dispute between the United States and China has opened a window of opportunity for India, allowing it to boost its exports to China and reduce the yawning trade deficit it has with its largest trading partner.

A statement last week from the Department of Commerce noted that India was "poised to achieve its highest-ever" merchandise export figure to China in the 2018-19 financial year.
