Bollywood star Salman Khan, jailed on Thursday for five years for poaching, was granted bail by an Indian court on Saturday in a case being followed by tens of millions of fans and a movie industry that banks heavily on his popularity.

Bollywood actor Salman Khan is often seen as a misunderstood star by his fans.

But the 52-year-old is no stranger to controversy and has had several run-ins with the law, including for a 2002 hit-and-run incident in which one man was killed.
