Musharraf leaves Pakistan for Dubai

KARACHI • Pakistan's former military ruler Pervez Musharraf, who faces charges of treason and murder, left the country for Dubai early yesterday for what his lawyers said was urgent spinal care after a three-year travel ban was lifted. Musharraf said he will return to face charges, but analyst Hasan Askari said the chance of him coming back was "minimal".


Mongolia hit by mass animal deaths

BEIJING • Hundreds of thousands of farm animals have died in a slow-moving natural disaster in Mongolia and the global aid response has been insufficient.

Mongolia has been hit by a natural phenomenon called a "dzud", said the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies yesterday, which happens when a hot summer drought is followed by a severe winter.
