The Maldives, a tiny island nation caught between India and China, on Sunday elected opposition candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih as its next president, a surprise result after years of authoritarian rule. President Abdulla Yameen has promised to hand over power when his term in office ends on Nov 17.

Ride-hailing firms Grab and Uber were fined a combined $13 million yesterday for violating competition laws. The competition watchdog said the merger of both firms earlier this year infringed the Competition Act, which forbids any merger that significantly reduces competition here.
