KLANG (THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK) - It was a traumatic experience for a four-year-old girl when her right leg got stuck between the gaps of a metal drain cover at Jalan Raja Nong Kiri in Kampung Jawa in Klang, Selangor.
She is believed to have slipped and was pinned up to her thigh while walking with her parents to their car after breakfast at about 8am yesterday.
She was wailing as her parents tried to free her leg but to no avail.
They then called the firemen to rescue her.
Kota Raja Fire and Rescue Services Department operation chief Mohd Shafiee Rawop said the girl, who was already frightened, cried even louder when she saw the firemen with their equipment.
Six firemen went to the scene with a hydraulic spreader to widen the gap of the drain cover in order to free the girl’s leg.
She sobbed non-stop as she was scared that something might happen to her leg, Mohd Shafiee said.
The firemen took turns to comfort and divert her attention as they attempted to free her leg.
“We also assured her that the firemen were there to save her.
“She finally calmed down with the help of her parents,” he said.
Mohd Shafiee said the firemen also covered the girl’s leg with a piece of cloth as they carefully operated the hydraulic spreader so that she would not see how it was done.
She was eventually freed after 15 minutes, much to the relief of her parents, the firemen and also several passers-by.
The girl sustained some light injuries and her parents took her for treatment at a clinic later, said Mohd Shafiee.
