Duterte visits Indonesia

Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte will meet his Indonesian counterpart Joko Widodo for talks in Jakarta today, as the former kicks off his first state visit as head of state. The two leaders will likely discuss, among other issues, Indonesians held hostage by a terrorist group based in the Philippines and maritime security in the Sulu Sea.

Eco-friendly lifestyle event

Green Living, an annual eco-lifestyle event positioned to meet the needs of eco-conscious consumers and businesses, opens today at the Marina Bay Sands. Housing over 100 brands of eco-friendly products in areas like sustainable homes, eco-parenting, health, mobility and smart technology, the event aims to encourage visitors to adopt a greener lifestyle. Over 40 workshops and seminars are open to the public at the three-day event ending on Sunday.

China's inflation data

China will report its inflation rate for August today. In July, the country's consumer inflation rate decelerated to 1.8 per cent from 1.9 per cent in June. This fell well below the government target of about 3 per cent.

Investors are expecting that continued weakness in inflation will give the central bank more room to ease monetary policy as the economy slows.
