Late Thai King's cremation ceremony

Revered Thai King Bhumibol Adulyadej will be cremated today. The day has been declared a public holiday, with many businesses having announced that they will be shut all day or close at midday. Crowds began gathering in Bangkok yesterday for the official beginning of the funeral, a five-day event which will run until Sunday.

Cancer care charity holds dinner

Ain Society, a registered charity providing cancer care services to patients and their families, will be holding a charity dinner tonight. Its president will announce plans to set up another centre to meet the increase in cancer care demand.

ECB set to announce timing of rate hike

Policymakers at the European Central Bank will meet today, with president Mario Draghi expected to announce an interest-rate hike for the euro zone in early 2019, according to a Bloomberg survey of economists. The survey predicted an increase in the deposit rate in the first quarter of 2019, followed by a rise in the benchmark rate three months later.
