Duterte, Abe to hold private meeting

Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte, who is in Japan on a state visit, will hold a tete-a-tete with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe at the latter's residence in Tokyo tonight.

Reuters reported that it is unusual for Mr Abe to hold such a meeting, as he faces a delicate task of keeping Mr Duterte aligned with United States-led efforts to contain Beijing's South China Sea ambitions.

Firms, experts to discuss cyber security

With the authorities saying that StarHub's broadband disruptions last Saturday and Monday could be due to a cyber attack, cyber security is clearly no longer an abstract concern for the public. The topic will be discussed at the FT Cyber Security Summit today, where company honchos and security experts will discuss how companies can beef up cyber security.

Data on Sept factory output

Data on Singapore's factory output for last month will be released today. Year-on-year growth is expected to ring in at 0.6 per cent, based on consensus forecasts by economists. Against August, however, September's industrial production is estimated to have shrunk by 2.6 per cent.
