Umno to elect new party president

Malaysia's former ruling party Umno is set to hold polls to pick a new party president today, after Datuk Seri Najib Razak stepped down days after losing the general election in May, which ended the party's six-decade rule.

Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Umno's acting president, is among those in the running, along with former youth and sports minister Khairy Jamaluddin and former finance minister Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah.


Youth environment forum begins

The Asean Plus Three Youth Environment Forum will be held from today until Monday at the Orchard Hotel, bringing together 70 young people from Singapore and the region aged between 15 and 25 to exchange ideas on environmental sustainability and climate action communications. The event, which will be opened by President Halimah Yacob, will see young people involved in panel discussions, workshops, field trips and presentations.


Round of 16 matches kick off

Sports buffs can look forward to an action-packed weekend with the round of 16 matches at the Russia World Cup.

France face Argentina tonight in the first game of the last-16 stage, with Lionel Messi's form under the microscope.

Cristiano Ronaldo will be the centre of attention when Portugal take on Uruguay at 2am tomorrow, with the next two games being Spain v Russia and Croatia v Denmark.
