Minister for Foreign Affairs Vivian Balakrishnan has concluded a two- day introductory visit to Brunei during which he had an audience with Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah.

"My first introductory visit as Foreign Minister is to Brunei Darussalam, in view of our special longstanding and deep ties over many decades," Dr Balakrishnan said in Facebook post yesterday.

During the meeting earlier yesterday, the monarch reaffirmed the special relationship between Singapore and Brunei, and welcomed the close cooperation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) said.

Sultan Bolkiah also expressed hope that the two countries, given their many commonalities, continue to work together to address regional and global challenges.

Dr Balakrishnan also met Crown Prince Al-Muhtadee Billah, Ambassador-at-Large Princess Hajah Masna, Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and Second Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Pehin Lim Jock Seng, and Minister of Education Pehin Suyoi Osman, MFA said.

Dr Balakrishnan returned to Singapore yesterday.
