KUALA LUMPUR • A video of Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad driving what appeared to be a Proton Perdana around Kuala Lumpur has gone viral after it was shared on Twitter .

Malaysian blogger Firdaus Abdullah, who posted the minute-long clip on Twitter on Sunday, said: "Prime Minister of Malaysia Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad driving himself to monitor the latest developments around Kuala Lumpur this morning."

He added: "Some have asked where Dr Mahathir gets overflowing energy at 93 years old. May God always protect this statesman." (Dr Mahathir turns 93 in July.)

The video has been viewed more than 211,000 times since it was posted, with more than 10,000 retweets and 15,500 likes. Yesterday, Dr Mahathir retweeted the post.

Dr Mahathir is known to drive himself around Putrajaya, reported the Malay Mail website. During his first tenure as prime minister from 1981 to 2003, he was known to visit public locations almost incognito, it added. He is also a car enthusiast, with a soft spot for Malaysian car manufacturer Proton.
