Two brothers murdered at birthday party in Petaling Jaya; eight suspects detained

KUALA LUMPUR (BERNAMA) - Two brothers who had gone to attend a birthday party were found murdered at an apartment building in Section 19, Petaling Jaya early on Sunday (Feb 11).

The bodies of the victims aged 36 and 44 were found under a tent set up on the ground floor of the building.

Eight people have been detained over the murders.

Initial police investigations revealed the brothers were set upon by a group about 2.30am before they were hacked with a machete and bludgeoned with a baseball bat.

According to a source, the police have seized the machete and the bat. The attack was believed to have been fuelled by a misunderstanding.

He said the siblings and more than 20 other guests were said to have gathered at the tent after attending the birthday party at an apartment unit when a quarrel broke out between the duo and other guests.

"Most of those present there were drunk...the victims died at the scene due to severe injuries in the head and body, he said.

Petaling Jaya police deputy chief, Superintendent Ku Mashariman Ku Mahmood said seven men and a woman aged between 30 and 40 were detained shortly after the killings.

The bodies were sent to the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre.
