Similar logjams have occurred in other states; issue happens at a critical time for Mahathir

In March 2014, Datuk Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail won the state seat of Kajang in a by-election, and her Pakatan Rakyat (PR) alliance submitted her name to the Selangor ruler as the state's next menteri besar (chief minister).

The previous menteri besar - Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim - had been ousted by PR. Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah demurred on her nomination and asked for other possible candidates.
