Thai well-wishers holding up portraits of Thai Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn on the front page of newspapers as they gathered outside the Grand Palace in Bangkok yesterday.

The 64-year-old Crown Prince became Thailand's new king yesterday after initially postponing his ascension to the throne for 50 days to mourn the death of his father, King Bhumibol Adulyadej, in a break with tradition.

He will be the 10th king of the Chakri Dynasty in Thailand.
