Six in Penang nudist event plead guilty; four claim trial

BALIK PULAU (THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK) - Six participants of the nudist event at a beach in Teluk Kampi in Penang have pleaded guilty while another four claimed trial.

The accused were charged with causing public unrest for stripping down naked on Teluk Kampi beach from 3pm to 6pm on May 30. They were charged under Section 294(A) of the Penal Code.

Magistrate Mohd Najib Ismail on Thursday set bail at RM4,000 (S$1,587) with one surety. He fixed Oct 16 for mention.

The nudist event was exposed in a video clip that went viral online, sparking protests from some groups which demanded police action.

The participants of the so-called Penang Nude Sports Games 2014 included citizens from Malaysia, Singapore, Myanmar and the Philippines. They engaged in activities such as painting each other's bodies, dancing and rolling over one another.
