President Tony Tan, PM Lee pen condolences for East Jakarta bombing

SINGAPORE - President Tony Tan Keng Yam and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong have penned condolence letters for the bombing in East Jakarta on Wednesday (May 24), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a media statement on Thursday (May 25).

Addressed to Indonesian President Joko Widodo, the letters expressed condolences for the suicide bombing attack at the Kampung Melayu bus terminal which killed three and wounded 10.

Dr Tan said: "I am deeply saddened to learn of the bomb blast on 24 May 2017 at the Kampung Melayu Bus Terminal in East Jakarta.

"Singapore strongly condemns this violent and callous act of terror which has caused the loss of innocent lives and many injuries."

Prime Minister Lee wrote: "The loss of lives and multiple injuries caused to the police and civilians was tragic, especially coming right before the holy month of Ramadan.

"We condemn this senseless act of violence."
