The electricity to oil palm smallholder Kherulilham Joha's house at Kampung Paya Embun in Johor was cut a month ago because he struggled to pay his bills due to a plunge in the commodity's price.

Earlier this year, the price of oil palm fruit bunches fell from RM500 (S$164) per tonne to about RM270 per tonne. The price rebounded to RM310 per tonne last month.
