Pakatan Harapan leaders convene for high-level meet to discuss Anwar's role in government

PETALING JAYA (THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK) - Several Pakatan Harapan leaders arrived at the Yayasan Selangor in Petaling Jaya on Thursday (May 17) for a presidential council meeting.

The meeting is expected to discuss the role Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will play in the government.

By 10.30am, Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad who is Pakatan chairman; Mr Anwar, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, and Democratic Action Party (DAP) secretary-general Lim Guan Eng had arrived for the high-level meeting.

Parti Amanah Negara president Mohamad Sabu arrived at the venue slightly later, at 10.36am.

Mr Anwar's wife, Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, arrived at about 10.50am. A press conference was expected to be convened at 1pm.

This is the first official meeting between all Pakatan leaders since Mr Anwar's release on Wednesday (May 16).

The 70-year-old PKR leader had walked out of the Cheras Rehabilitation Hospital at 11.30am on Wednesday and headed straight to the Istana Negara for an audience with the Malaysian King, who granted a full pardon and cleared him of his 2014 sodomy conviction.
