LANGKAWI - Singapore's Second Minister for Defence Ong Ye Kung and Second Minister for Transport Ng Chee Meng met Malaysia's Prime Minister Najib Razak and Defence Minister Hishammuddin Hussein on Tuesday (March 21) on Langkawi island.
The meetings with the Malaysian leaders underscored "the warm and long-standing ties between Singapore and Malaysia," Singapore's Ministry of Defence said in a statement.
They reiterated the importance of strong bilateral defence cooperation, according to Mindef.
They also reaffirmed commitment to multilateral frameworks that form an integral part of the region's security architecture, such as the Five Power Defence Arrangements, the Asean Defence Ministers' Meeting (ADMM) and the ADMM-Plus.
Mr Ong also met Turkish Deputy Minister of National Defence Suay Alpay and British Parliamentary Under Secretary of State and Minister for Defence Procurement Harriet Baldwin, Mindef said.
Earlier in the day, the Singapore ministers met with Malaysia's Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
Besides the bilateral meetings, the Singapore ministers also attended the opening ceremony of the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition 2017 (LIMA 17) held at the Mahsuri International Exhibition Centre on Tuesday morning.
