Despite being trounced at the national polls in May, the Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA) opted for the status quo on Sunday by electing former deputy president Wee Ka Siong as party president.

Calls within MCA for the party to quit the once-powerful Barisan Nasional (BN) pact may come to nought, with most delegates opting against Mr Gan Ping Sieu's attempt to get the party to leave the crumbling coalition at once.
