Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak dined with his deputy Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin the night before he sacked the latter, going by a photo that has emerged.

The photo was posted on photo-sharing website Instagram by Datuk Seri Najib's brother Nazir Razak, at whose company's Hari Raya open house the "last supper" took place, The Malaysian Insider news website reported yesterday.

"One for the history books. (Oblivious) host to their last supper together," Datuk Seri Nazir wrote on his Instagram account, according to the news website.

The open house, organised by the CIMB banking group and hosted by its chairman, Mr Nazir, took place last Monday evening. In the photo, Mr Nazir and his guests appeared to be sharing a light moment, with all smiling broadly.

The next day, Mr Najib announced the sacking of Mr Muhyiddin from his posts as Deputy Prime Minister and Education Minister, as well as four other ministers - a move that surprised many.

It came after Mr Muhyiddin had, on July 26, openly called for the Prime Minister to explain to the public the financial scandal surrounding the debt-ridden state investor 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

Mr Najib, who is chairman to the 1MDB fund's advisory board, is under tremendous pressure to resign to take responsibility for the scandal.
