The "azan" or Muslim call to prayer is no longer just heard in the Middle East, South Asia or South-east Asia, but also increasingly in the West, across many cities in Europe and the United States.
It is played five times a day through loudspeakers at mosques to summon the faithful to pray - an occurrence even Hollywood has often portrayed in films and TV dramas with Muslim characters, or to identify a certain place.
