ALOR SETAR (THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK) - A 39-year-old man was arrested last Saturday (April 8) for allegedly taking an upskirt video of a woman with a camera hidden in his shoe at a pasar tani (farmer's market).

Kota Setar district police chief ACP Mohd Rozi Jidin said the incident occurred at 9.30am at Pasar Tani Giant in Jalan Langgar.

"The suspect was bashed up by a group at the market after he was caught sliding his leg below her dress. His shoe was attached with a digital camera used to record live video and was connected to his smartphone," ACP Rozi added.

"The victim is a 38-year-old female clerk from Jitra who works at the Employees Provident Fund office in Alor Setar.

"She was not even aware that she was being filmed until she was told by the crowd."

ACP Rozi said the suspect is working as an operations assistant at a government-linked company in Alor Setar.

He said the suspect, who has no previous criminal record, will be remanded until April 12 for further investigation.

The case will be investigated under Section 294 (a) of the Penal Code for committing an obscene act in a public place and Section 509 of the Penal Code for intending to insult the modesty of a woman.
