KOTA KINABALU - A man is believed to have been mauled by a crocodile while fishing by the riverbank in Kinabatangan, Sabah.
Mr Mare Miri, a 39-year-old immigrant, was fishing with four other friends when the reptile went up the bank and snatched him away.
Kinabatangan Fire and Rescue Department said it received a report about the incident at 1.14pm on July 6.
“The incident happened near the Tomanggong Estate in Sukau,” said fire station chief Yus Pinsin.
He said a team of search and rescuers was dispatched to the scene and they arrived at the site at 6.48pm, about 240km from the fire station.
Mr Yus said the search involved villagers, where their boats were used for the operation, together with other agencies.
The search radius is set at 3km from the point of attack, he said, adding there were still no signs of the victim as of the afternoon of July 7. THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK
