SEPANG (THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK) - Malaysia has denied reports in some online portals and local newspapers that police are focusing their investigation on one of the Malaysia Airlines MH370 crew members and a 35-year-old Chinese national of Uighur descent.
Federal CID director Comm Datuk Hadi Ho Abdullah said he had not given any statement regarding the investigation to the media pertaining to the missing MH370.
"The investigation is confidential and it is still ongoing.
"The police will divulge latest development in the case at the right time," he said in a statement on Thursday.
He added any report, which quoted him as confirming on the case was false.
"Such reports are invalid," he was commenting on a report, which also indicated police was focusing on a Chinese national, who was among the passengers on the flight.
The Malay language daily Harian Metro on Thursday reported that police raided the home of one of the crew members and questioned the family members.
It also reported that the Uighur was investigated because of his background.
It quoted an unnamed source as saying that Malaysian police and Interpol are focusing their attention on this man because of the skills he possessed.
"We are not saying that he is involved in terrorism, suspected of sabotaging or hijacking the plane, it's just that more attention is on him because of his background and we feel that there are important elements that have to be looked at," the source was quoted as saying.
The report said according to the man's curriculum vitae found online, he is a PhD holder and is currently an assistant professor in the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, at a Turkish university.
The Uighurs are a Turkic ethnic group primarily living in the Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region in China.
It was reported that the group that killed at least 29 people and wounding 143 with long knives and daggers in a Kunming railway station on March 1, were allegedly Muslim separatist militants from Xinjiang, suspected to be of Uighur descent.
