Malaysian PM Najib undergoes minor surgery to remove benign growth from right hand

Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak had minor surgery on Saturday (Jan 9) to remove a small benign growth on his right hand.

According to Malaysian state news agency Bernama, Datuk Seri Najib underwent the operation at Kuala Lumpur Hospital as an outpatient.

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong also revealed the news of his counterpart's surgery on his Facebook page on Saturday night.

"Glad to hear your procedure today was successful. Wishing you a speedy recovery and see you soon," PM Lee also tweeted.

Responding to PM Lee's good wishes, Mr Najib tweeted his thanks on Sunday morning.

"I'm recovering well, thank you for the kind thoughts. See you soon," he said.

The leaders of the 10 Asean countries are expected to take part in a summit with US President Barack Obama in Sunnylands, California, next month.

In May, the Singapore-Malaysia Leaders' Retreat is expected to take place in Malaysia.
