BUKIT MERTAJAM, Penang – A woman was killed when a container being transported on a trailer lorry toppled and crushed her car near Bukit Tengah in Penang on Nov 13.
The woman has been identified as 21-year-old Lee Zi Rou. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
She was waiting at a traffic light when the lorry, coming from the opposite direction, made a sharp left turn.
This reportedly caused the container it was carrying to shift off balance and become detached before falling on the victim’s car in the 9.15am incident.
The woman was in the car alone and was reportedly on her way to work.
The incident temporarily left both lanes of the road blocked.
Several other vehicles were also damaged, with another injured driver taken to hospital.
The person who was injured was helped by passers-by before rescuers arrived at the scene.
The 51-year-old driver of the trailer was arrested for further investigation, Malaysian police said. He will be charged at a Penang court with causing death by reckless or dangerous driving. THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK
