Jokowi fails to deliver GDP target, as election looms

Indonesian leader grappling with global commodity slump amid rising prices at home

Linda Yulisman When President Joko Widodo came to power in October 2014, he promised to achieve 7 per cent annual economic growth for Indonesia, on the back of an ambitious infrastructure push.

But in his very first year in office, he was made to swallow a bitter pill as South-east Asia's largest economy expanded by only 4.8 per cent - its slowest pace in six years.
