KUALA LUMPUR - A crack and highly paid legal team, led by former New Jersey governor Chris Christie, acting on behalf of the alleged mastermind of the financial scandal at 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB), Low Taek Jho, negotiated the stunning settlement between the fugitive financier and the US Department of Justice (DOJ) this week.

As part of the deal, Low, who is better known as Jho Low, will end his contest to assets amounting to roughly US$900 million (S$1.22 billion) that were seized by the DOJ in civil forfeiture cases filed between 2016 and 2017 in the central district court of California.
