Indonesian regional election results show PDI-P has to raise their game

JAKARTA - On the face of it, preliminary results of Wednesday's regional polls augur well for President Joko Widodo's re-election bid, with his allies notching up important wins in key electorates across Java, Indonesia's most populous region.

But in this era of coalition politics, which in Indonesia's case is often played out at frenetic pace, how far can the president, popularly known as Jokowi, rely on the results of these elections as an early indication of his own race next year?
