Lim Guan Eng's trial postponed to July 30

GEORGE TOWN • The corruption trial of Malaysia's new Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng has been postponed to July 30, while his lawyers are asking for the charges against him to be dropped.

Mr Ramkarpal Singh, the lawyer for the former Penang chief minister, said they would be filing a representation on the case to the new attorney-general, who is expected to be appointed by July, to propose that the charges pertaining to the purchase of a bungalow at below market value be dropped.


Azmin Ali to remain as Menteri Besar for now

SHAH ALAM • Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has consented to Menteri Besar Azmin Ali holding the post of Minister of Economic Affairs until a candidate is sworn in to take his place.

T he Sultan's private secretary, Datuk Mohamad Munir Bani, said yesterday that Datuk Seri Azmin also has to submit a list of candidates for the consideration and consent of the Sultan before the appointment can be made.

He added that Mr Azmin "will remain as Selangor Menteri Besar for now, to facilitate a smooth and organised transition of power to the new menteri besar".
