Fisherman claims 'ancestral rights' to fish in contested water

Visitors are greeted with a giant billboard when they reach the fishing town of Tanmen. You are the frontline guards of China's sovereignty, it says, accompanied with a beaming picture of president Xi Jinping greeting fishermen. Mr Xi's visit in 2013 propelled the sleepy village to national prominence, which in tandem with the popularity of giant clam products, triggered Tanmen's rapid development in stature, infrastructure and tourism.
