EU deal grows Vietnam's stature and bolsters security

BANGKOK - Vietnam recently signed a deal with the European Union that paves the way for its participation in the bloc's crisis management operations, a step up in their defence and security cooperation.

It was the first Asean country to sign this Framework Participation Agreement with the EU and the second Asian nation - after South Korea - to do so.
